form 1 heritage day - 29th March 2014
As a teacher, it is important to recognise that everyone learns differently. One of the methods I strive for in the classroom is a hands-on practical approach rather than solely the traditional "talk and chalk" strategy. In an attempt to promote Heritage and Diversity, I decided to do a Heritage Day with my Form 1D class. The class was divided into groups and asked to portray the various ethnic groups that came to the islands of Trinidad and Tobago by exhibiting the dress, food, music, dance and sports that were influenced by the respective groups. These ethnic groups include: the Indigenous (Native) Population of the Tainos and Kalinagos, Europeans, Africans, East Indians, Chinese, Syrians, Lebanese and Portuguese.
